This is the age of communication...

...and nothing is being said.

Cute little anacronyms have replaced meaningful exchanges. Technology has stripped away the need for education. The pressing need for more and better has overshadowed the basic principle of "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" Human touch has been supplanted by cheap words.

I watch semi-intelligent people attack each other instead of the ideas that lay before them rotting and souring the air. Debate has been replaced with argument, and whoever yells the loudest wins. I take that back. No one yells anymore, they just type in CAPS!!!!

Four or five meaningless exchanges constitutes a friendship in this barren landscape. And should life interfere in our internet consumption, it sends more shockwaves than an actual death.

I find it hollow.

The problem with throwing it all in the crapper is that amidst the huge piles of rubbish, an occassional true friendship is born. A bond is formed and we no longer feel quite so alienated and adrift. And that is such a precious commodity, it is worth wading through hours of garbage to make that connection once again.

Life suffers. Our lives suffer though, in the process. And what do we have to show for our hours upon hours of empty communication? One, maybe two friends, and a buddy list of hundreds of strangers.
